Behind-the-Scenes Film Celebrating Peggy Dark Rum and the Legendary Peggy of Castletown.

We are delighted to announce the release of an original song — along with a behind-the-scenes “making-of” video — created to celebrate Peggy Dark Rum.

Far Shore Merchants is delighted to announce the release of an original song — along with a behind-the-scenes “making-of” video — created to celebrate Peggy Dark Rum, the company’s premium craft rum inspired by one of the Isle of Man’s greatest maritime icons: the Peggy of Castletown.

Commissioned as part of the brand’s storytelling heritage, the song pays tribute not only to the exceptional rum itself, but also to the extraordinary 18th-century schooner and her ingenious owner, George Quayle. His spirit of adventure and inventive brilliance formed the heart of Peggy Dark Rum’s brand narrative — and now, that spirit has been set to music.

The musical project was brought to life in partnership with the phenomenally gifted Gyp Buggane and David Kinley of Ballagroove Recording Studio in Balthane Estate and the man with the camera – Glenn Whorrall from Your Movie Crew who not only captured the vibe perfectly, but is a wizard at editing. Working closely with Far Shore Merchants, the trio collaborated on refining the lyrics before Gyp and Dave composed a melody that perfectly blends Manx folklore, maritime energy, and a modern, foot-tapping refrain. The result is a tune that makes you tap your feet, smile, and — inevitably — sing along.

The newly released “making-of” film captures the creative journey from early lyric sessions to final studio recording, offering an intimate glimpse into the atmosphere at Ballagroove Studio and showcasing the humour, craftsmanship, and musical spark that shaped the final track.

“Peggy Dark Rum was born from the story of the Peggy of Castletown — a vessel of remarkable ingenuity and a testament to Manx innovation,” said Terry van Rhyn, Managing Director and Founder of Far Shore Merchants. “It felt only right to honour that heritage through music. Our hope is that this song travels to far-off shores just as the original Peggy once did — celebrating a boat and a man of true substance.”

The song and behind-the-scenes video stand as a tribute to a premium rum with a powerful story — and to the Island’s rich maritime past that continues to inspire today.
